Nichole Harriott, LMHC
Hi, I’m Nichole Harriott~
Do you have a difficult time making sense of your undesirable feelings in various situations? Do you find it difficult to express yourself appropriately when communicating with others? Would you describe yourself as socially awkward?
I believe I could help you sort through these difficulties by building a solid therapeutic relationship with communication being the conner stone. It can be difficult to trust a new person. However, consider the possibilities when you are able to express your emotions and process your feelings with someone trained to actively listen, and determined to build have a safe space. Having a safe space can reduce your anxiety by ensuring your thoughts are kept private. There are exceptions to confidentiality which I will review in our initial session. Seeking help can be difficult, thus your bravery in taking this first step is commendable. By making your mental health a priority you increase your ability to develop coping strategies to assist you in stressful situations and improve your mood and communication skills. Hence, enhancing your relationship with self and others.
I am a Licensed Mental Health Therapist, I graduated from Florida International University with a master’s degree in School Counseling then went on to receive a Specialist Degree at Barry University with specialization in Marriage, Couples, Family and Mental Health Counseling. I have worked with kids, teens, and their families for over 20 years. I have special training in utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy strategies and hold a certificate in school counseling grades K-12. My philosophy is a quote from Mya Angelou “…people won’t remember what you said or did, they will remember how you made them feel.” I want my clients to feel welcomed and at ease as they initiate and maintain a therapeutic relationship. Working with me you will find a therapist who will meet you were you are in the journey and work at your pace to discover and/or improve self-awareness. I became a therapist because of the relationships I built with families during my time as a school counselor. It was easy to recognize that each family needed its own support to ensure the success of the children. This led me to seeking further training to assist individuals as they navigated transitions in the family dynamics.
I am married with two wonderful kids who are 13 and 7 years old. We enjoy watching movies and traveling to various countries. Traveling can be difficult as we also have a cat who does not like being left behind. My cultural background is Jamaican as I grew up there before relocating to South Florida at the age of 14. I attended Miramar High School then went on to the University of Florida where I received my bachelor’s degree in teaching. Working with children and their families have always been one of my core values as I believe it takes a village to ensure all generations feel supported and safe as they seek their place in the world.
