Licensed Mental Health Counselor (License # MH 14291)

Hi – I’m Yaimara

I decided to become a therapist after finding myself avidly observing the various ways we humans interact. I was sitting in the orchestra level at the Adrienne Arsht Center, where I was supposed to be watching The Miami City Ballet perform Don Quixote. It was the end of my sophomore year at Florida International University, I had switched my major from psychology to nursing and was struggling to figure out what career path to follow. That night helped solidify my future – I realized I wanted to be in the front seat of the ‘play’ we call life! I wanted to help others find their way too. Once I made up my mind, the pieces fell into place.

I began practical training in my craft in South Florida at Family Counseling Services of Greater Miami, where my track towards working with children and adolescents first began to take root. I graduated with my Masters of Science degree with a major in Clinical Psychology from Barry University. After graduation, I gained invaluable crisis care and intervention experience working with adults and adolescents at a Crisis Services Unit. This experience, as well as further work in long-term residential care, broadened my knowledge and understanding of the upheaval caused by substance abuse. Most recently, my work at a private psychosocial rehabilitation organization allowed me to gain additional proficiency working with adolescents and adults with severe and persistent mental illness.

Throughout my training and practice, my attention naturally flowed towards the treatment of anxiety, depression, coping, life transitions and adjustments. I enjoy working with a variety of age groups; however, my experience and interests have led to an emphasis in working with pre-adolescents, adolescents and young adults. This age group has its own special challenges that requires a unique approach. I love working with this population and helping emerging adults figure out who they are, how to solve their problems, how to communicate effectively, and how to achieve their goals.

I use a combination of therapeutic techniques to help my clients achieve their goals – my background has primarily been in Solution Focused Brief Therapy, Play Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. However, because I know every individual is unique, I tailor my treatment approach according to your needs and will follow where this take us.

I believe in creating a collaborative and non-judgmental relationship that can help you achieve long lasting changes in your personal life, your relationships, and your overall well-being. Together, we will discover the causes of your concerns and implement strategies that will help you achieve your goals.

I am a proud alumnus of Barry University, all-around animal lover, fan of all things Disney and Harry Potter, as well as an avid reader. Some of the greatest joys in my life are discovering new places to incorporate into my future travel plans and relaxing at home with a spoiled German Shepherd Dog.

I look forward to connecting with you and helping you build a more enjoyable life.

I’m currently accepting new clients and have daytime and evening appointments available. Please contact Seasons Psychotherapy Associates directly at 954-342-0982 or [email protected] to set up a free phone consultation. I look forward to hearing from you!
