Licensed Mental Health Counselor (License # MH20922)
Hi – I’m Katina
I help people change their lives.
I’ve always dreamed of becoming a psychotherapist. When I was young, I would watch portrayals of therapists on TV and wonder what it would be like to have a job like that. Once I went to college, I realized that helping people suffering with emotional or mental difficulties was truly my calling in life.
Therapy is not for the faint of heart, nor is becoming a psychotherapist. And yet, it’s the most fulfilling, rewarding, creative career I could possibly imagine doing. It’s a sincere honor for me to be able to make it my life’s work and to help my clients in any way I can.
I’m also an interested observer of people and relationships. I understand that life can sometimes be really hard to deal with. This whole just being human thing is difficult! Not only do we have to figure out how to make a living, how to pay our bills, how to unclog our toilets; we’re also trying to figure out the big stuff like: Why am I here? What’s my purpose? Who will love me? What choices should I make? I embrace the fact that we’re all human, and we all struggle with similar things.
My approach to psychotherapy is that no matter where you’re starting from, change is possible. Most of my clients seek therapy because they are feeling stuck or frustrated in some way. Many are afraid of the uncertainty and confusion that comes with change. I often help my clients find the courage to start with small steps. I love to teach new life skills and provide encouragement to practice new habits each day.
I specialize in working with adolescents and adults suffering with anxiety, depression, and mood disorders. My passion is working with LGBTQ+ clients and I am a LGBTQ+ affirmative therapist. I honor the unique challenges LGBTQ+ individuals face and help them navigate these challenges effectively.
My past work experiences include providing play therapy to children at a children’s learning center, and working at a community mental health agency where I facilitated groups and provided individual psychotherapy to children, teens, adults, families, and couples.
I believe therapy can help you find solutions to your problems, help you to adjust to life’s inevitable changes, and help you feel better. I promise to meet you where you are, to have a non-judgmental attitude, and provide a safe and supportive place where you can explore your past, your current situation, and your goals for the future.
I’m a proud alumnus of Barry University where I received a Masters of Science, and majored in Clinical Psychology. I’m also a devoted wife and dog mom. I enjoy volunteering and spending time with the LGBTQ+ community, traveling as much as possible with my spouse, and watching movies with my family.
I’m currently accepting new clients and have daytime and evening appointments available. Please contact Seasons Psychotherapy Associates directly at 954-342-0982 or schedule an appointment online. I look forward to hearing from you!
