Hi – I’m Karimi

Are you in a transitionary period of your life? Are you struggling with figuring out and understanding who you are or what you are becoming? Are you experiencing anxiety, confusion, and grief around the changes in your life, and the new identity it is leading to? Do you stay awake at night with your thoughts going in circles and it never comes to an end? If so, I am here to help.

I am passionate about helping people facilitate positive changes in their lives and communities. My practice focuses on supporting individuals to navigate through anticipatory loss, life transitions, and corresponding changes in identity and relationships. My therapeutic approach is informal, compassionate, and responsive to each person’s unique needs. I bring my whole self into the therapeutic space and join you in your experience. My role is to help you explore your curiosity and concerns to better understand the different aspects of your experience, from the mind, body, and spirit to the family, social, and cultural dimensions.

I am a Lynn University graduate with a Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I have worked with individuals of all ages – young children, teens, and adults struggling with dual diagnosis, primarily substance abuse and trauma (PTSD), mood disorders, and psychotic disorders. Additionally, I am a Registered Behavioral Technician with experience working with children and adults struggling with neurodevelopmental disorders such as Autism and ADHD.

I’m from Nairobi, Kenya, and I speak FOUR languages: Swahili, English, Meru, and Kamba. I moved to Florida seven years ago for graduate school at FAU, where I earned my first master’s degree in MBA. I had a short career in accounting/finance and experienced an identity shift myself, which led to my transition from business to mental health and Christianity to Buddhism. My experience informs my practice, which is why I am so passionate about this work. In my spare time, I enjoy exercising, playing Nintendo Switch, binging on shows, longboarding, cleaning, and hanging out with friends.

My guiding principle is meeting the client where they are at. I come into the session with a sense of curiosity and cultural humility. I believe that my clients are the experts in their own lives, and my role is to reflect, reframe and mirror back what they already know. Using a variety of evidence-based techniques, I will help you reconnect to your existing strengths and cultivate additional resources that support progress toward the changes you wish to make. My practice is grounded in person-centered, internal family systems, and relational-cultural theories, and I frequently utilize CBT, mindfulness, humor, and creative interventions. To be alive is to be constantly growing and changing, which can sometimes be challenging.

I’m currently accepting new clients: adolescents, adults, and couples, in person and via telehealth. If you would like to schedule a session, please contact our mental health clinic in Fort Lauderdale and Davie directly at 954-342-0982 or setup an appointment online.
